St. Bernard: "This universal vanity"

“IT is the nature of this universal vanity which is in us to wish for praise when we deserve blame, and to be loath to praise others when we know them to be praiseworthy.”

~St. Bernard of Clairvaux: Letters, 19, 3.

St. Bernard of Clairvaux is called "the last of the Fathers" of the Church because once again in the 12th century he renewed and brought to the fore the important theology of the Fathers. (Benedict XVI)
